Mosque 100 Programme - Introduction & Training Seminar

I attended a seminar yesterday conducted by the 'Oak Community Development' group, which was the first in what will be a long-term programme geared towards "creating better and inclusive communities". The group are a training consultancy organisation that have been contracted by the Muslim Council of Britain to turn our Mosques from places limited to prayer and supplication to becoming hubs of the community buzzing with life and activity.

Yesterday's seminar included a session on 'Good Governance of our Mosques and Organisations', a discussion entitled 'Facing up to the Challenges' and a talk about 'Planning, Organising and Sustainability'.

A step in the right direction me thinks.

> This is classic...every organisation attempts this. Let's see if anything comes of all this planning!

You should see the booklet 'A Management Guide for Mosques & Islamic Centre' that they ('Oak Commmunity Development') have compiled and written. It is very good maa sha Allah. These lot seem very organised and in the know. As for whether attendees will take their advice away and implement it, that is another matter. Time will tell insha Allah, but you can't fault them for trying.

> Maybe you can host your MMA classes at the mosque?

That is a possibility if we ever came across an appropriate teacher in the locality and if we had the money to fork out on equipment. That is definitely something to consider for the future. Having said that, we already have Karate and Boxing classes going on.

Scouts is another possibility.

Many masjid lack in the community hub role I think. Something that I hope would be resolved as time goes on, this is a step in the right direction.

I'd be interested in attending the next such seminar or reviewing any materials if you have some available...
